4 Tips to Help Keep Your Vehicle's AC System in Top Shape

If you want the air conditioning in your car to work when you need it to, you need to make sure that you are taking care of your car's air conditioning system throughout the year. Here are a few tips that will help ensure that you air conditioning continues to work well.

#1 Run Your AC At Least Once A Week

Even if it is not that hot outside, you should turn on your vehicle's air conditioning at least once a week, and keep it running for about fifteen minutes or the length of time it takes you to listen to about three songs on the radio. When you turn on your air conditioning, you need to turn it on to one of the higher settings and set the temperature low. This will allow the compressors that run your air conditioning a chance to fire up, and this will help keep the gas pressure inside of the compressor at the optimal level.

#2 Turn On The Defrost Once A Week

You should also turn your vehicle's defrost at least once a week as well for about fifteen minutes. Doing this will help keep your air conditioning system clean. It will help prevent mildew from growing inside of your system, which can happen when it is left alone for too long due to the moisture that gets left behind.

Turning on the defrost will also prevent your air conditioner from smelling funky when you need to use it when it is actually hot outside.

#3 Use It To Get Rid Of Fog In The Wintertime

In the winter, you can use your air conditioning to get rid of fog. Your air conditioner is designed to pull moisture from the air, and works great at clearing up your windshield when it gets all clouded with fog on a cold winter day.

#4 Service Your Air Conditioning Every Two Years

Finally, every two years, ideally right before the hottest months hit in your area, you should take your vehicle in and have your air conditioning serviced by your local auto repair shop. During this service, they should refresh and recharge both the lubricant and gas inside of your air conditioning system. They should also check to make sure that there are no leaks in your system. This is also a good time to change out the filter to ensure that the air you are breathing from your air conditioning system is fresh and clean.
