Exploring Automotive Electrical Faults

When To Take Your Car In For Auto Repair Or Service

Owning a car, truck, or SUV comes with some added responsibility that includes maintenance and auto repair. Knowing when the vehicle needs to go in for service is essential, so it is vital that you listen to your car and what is going on with it. There are some key indications of issues that can help if you pay attention to them.

Indicators And Warnings

Modern vehicles are filled with sensors that help the computer determine what is happening inside the engine, transmission, and other parts of the car. These sensors can also help determine when something goes wrong, and typically the check engine light or CEL on the dash will come on when there is an issue that needs to be addressed.

Taking your vehicle to an auto repair shop when the light comes on is vital. The shop will use a computer system to read the warning codes from the computer and determine where the issue is.

Once the diagnosis is complete, the auto repair shop can order parts for the car or truck, make the repairs for you, and get you back on the road.

Transmission Repairs

Many new cars also have sensors inside the transmission, but many times the transmission will begin to slip, grind, or not work before the CEL comes on. If you notice a new noise in the car that you have not heard in the past, it is a good idea to take the vehicle to an auto repair shop and have them check it.

Note any odd behaviors you have noticed, and let the tech know about them because they can often help determine where to start the inspection. Sometimes the smallest things can be a clue as to what is happening with the vehicle, so it is essential to pass that information along.

Towing Services

If your car or truck breaks down on the road and you can't get it going, you may need to have a towing service take it to your local auto repair shop for service. Many auto repair shops have two trucks and wrecker services, so if you use a shop regularly, you may want to call them first.

The shop may also offer roadside repairs for small issues like flat tires, dead batteries, or a hose or belt that breaks. Call the shop and let them know where you are and what is wrong with your vehicle if you can.

The shop will send a tow truck to your location and help you determine what the next step needs to be to get your car running again.

Contact a local auto shop if you need auto repairs.
